After all the hard work of the festival committee and helpers I am delighted to welcome you to this year's festival. We've got something for everyone and are looking to build on the successes of last year and previous festivals.
We were absolutely delighted to receive funding from Arts Council England and Scarborough Borough Council and we are also grateful to Filey Town Council, Filey Lions and the Ernest Cook Trust for their sponsorship. Without this financial help there would not be a festival!
This funding enables us to take the festival up to the next level and add headline acts to an already impressive programme. This year we have arts workshops for children, dance, music, concerts, jazz, shows, poetry, crafts, art in local venues and a super Party in the Park to round it off.
I am particularly proud of the music this year. From the acoustic gathering and jazz to opera and the Spa orchestra it covers a wide range of styles and suits all tastes.
Most of all I am looking forward to a real community event. Although we are very small in number we have a lot of enthusiasm and I am indebted to the Filey Festival Committee and the Friends of Filey Festival for all their help. We welcome new members to either group. I hope you enjoy Filey Festival 2008!

The grand opening will be performed by Lady Ayckbourn at 11am on 28th June and will feature a guard of honour by the Sea Cadets, our royal children and the local town criers. This will mark the start of eight days of fun and entertainment. Highlights during opening day include our traditional craft market in the Crescent, and during the day there is a programme of music and dance.
